MERCEDES AMG W14 - DISRESPECTING DNK OF SILVER ARROWS

Mercedes-AMG is the ninth of ten teams to reveal the colors and design of its latest contender, the W14. Everyone in the team want to return to the top in 2023 after starting the new F1 era with many problems.

Mercedes-AMG is one of the teams that took the longest to reveal its 2023 car. We all wondered whether or not they would keep the concept with minimum sized sidepods. This design did not turn out to be something special, towards the end of 2022 they began to understand it, which was confirmed by the win in Brazil.
2023 will be a key year for Mercedes-AMG and it will be the first time since 2014 that they will not enter the season as the defending constructors' championship. This year they will have the third garage starting from the left, behind Red Bull and Ferrari, but at Brackley they hope to retake the lead with the W14.

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton deserve a fully competitive car, that's what every sincere F1 fan hopes for. What is needed is a title challenge. The goal is that there is no driver or team that will "print" wins for artificial records. Last year started well, ended badly, now we hope for many more title contenders.

Mercedes-AMG chose to go back to black, with just a few details in turquoise for Petronas and red for Ineos, the team's second and third owners. The green of George Russell's number and the yellow of Lewis Hamilton also stand out.
The team tried to solve last year's problems with porpoising on the straights, reduce weight and increase aerodynamic efficiency.

Mike Elliott, Technical Director: "We have reflected on last year and addressed the areas we think we can improve. Now, there is excitement about getting ready for a new year, a new chance to show what we are capable of."

"The winter is always a huge hive of activity in the factory, taking concepts that you’ve got in aerodynamics and in vehicle dynamics, and bringing them to fruition in design."

"You’ve then got the final stages of finishing that work, testing to make sure that all the components such as the Power Unit, the chassis and the gearbox all come together and work properly. We are now at the stage of waiting to see what’s going to happen on track and where the car is going to be.

"Last year, once we had figured out what we needed to do, it took a huge amount of work to get ourselves moving forward. Towards the end of the season, you could see the performance improving and the winter has been a reset."

"We have done all the things that we wanted to do with the W13 last year but couldn’t because of resource constraints or our focus was elsewhere fixing other issues."

"We had a tough season last year by our standards, but I am proud of how the team pulled together to produce the improvements we saw at the end of the season. I am very excited to see what those efforts, and those over the winter, have turned into."

"Wherever we start 2023 though, our fans and our partners can be sure that we will be pushing as hard as we possibly can so that when we reach Abu Dhabi, we are hopefully fighting for a world championship."
Toto Wolff, Team Principal: "Last year was difficult but it came with lots of learning. I hope 2023 will be proof that we have understood how to unravel the problems and improve the package of the car. We haven’t started racing yet and certainly it is going to be a great challenge. I’m sure it will also be good fun."

"We say that the days we lose are the days for our competitors to regret because we learn the most. However, if you are right in the deep end of it, it sometimes doesn’t feel that way. You are just trying to dig yourself out and hopefully bring better results."

"I am sure that in many years we will look back and say: "2022 was a defining year for the team." After eight consecutive world championship titles we knew that there were going to be challenging times ahead at some point. Hopefully 2022 was just a blip and this year is much better."

"At the start of any new season, our hopes and expectations are always to be capable of fighting for a World Championship. Racing at the front requires resilience, teamwork, and determination. We face up to every challenge, we put the Team first, and we will leave no stone unturned in the chase for every millisecond. This year, we are going all in to get back in front."
The launch took place on George Russell's 25th birthday, so he was the first to speak after Toto Wolff.

"Last year I was impressed with how the team developed the car throughout the season. We got better every race and now I'm looking forward to testing the W14 on the track."

"It's been a long winter, but now we really want to see if the W14 lives up to our expectations. I'm also excited by the rumors of the cars competitiveness at this point, there's a lot we can learn when it hits the track for the first time."
Then Lewis Hamilton took the floor, looking smiling and fresh for new challenges.

"I am inspired by the diligence with which each member of the team approaches their work. It has been very interesting to watch the evolution of the car and the decisions made."

"We have redesigned, optimized and improved many elements of the car, and this is impressive. I love the new colour! I am very glad that we will start racing soon. I feel calm, energetic and focused. I am ready to give everything to I win."

"I enjoy being part of this team and working together towards a common goal. I have always believed that I can be better. I love the challenges, physical and mental, the need to dive deep into the cause to get the most out of myself and others. Our car is constantly changing, we're getting new tools and I love it. I plan to stay with the team for a while."
