OFFICIALLY: ZHOU GUANYU WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE FOR ALFA ROMEO

Everyone was expecting an Audi announcement, but the tiger could only mean one thing. Alfa Romeo has officially announced that it has extended the contract with Zhou Guanyu for the 2023 season.

During a successful debut year, Zhou showed levels of maturity and racing ability despite his youth, contributing to the team's development and fight for 6th place in the Constructors' Championship.

Zhou, the first Chinese driver to race in Formula 1, arrived in the championship this year after finishing third in Formula 2 behind Oscar Piastri and Robert Schwartzman.

The six points he has scored so far in his debut, with P8 in Canada as his best result, was enough to convince Alfa Romeo management to re-sign him.

This together with the sponsorship he carries compensates for the gap of near 50 points with his team mate Valtteri Bottas.

"I am happy and grateful to Alfa Romeo F1 Team for the opportunity to be part of the team for another season. Making it to Formula One was a dream come true and the feeling of competing for the first time in a race will live with me forever."

"The team has been incredibly supportive, welcoming me from day one and helping me adapt to the most complex series in motorsport. There is more that I want to achieve in this sport and with the team, and the hard work we have put together since the start of the year is just the first step towards where we want to be next season."

"There is still a lot to learn, a lot to develop but I am confident in our work: I am looking forward to the next chapter of our story together," said Guanyu.

This completes the Alfa Romeo driver line-up for 2023, leaving only three driver slots for next season, one at Alpine/AlphaTauri, one at Williams, one at Haas F1.
