Jenson Button showed that Brawn will remain hard to beat despite other teams' progress by topping the opening practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix by a comfortable margin.
Toyota were quick again, with Trulli and Glock completing 59 laps between them, and Williams once again showed their good practice form. But the surprise of the morning came from BMW, who put Kubica and Heidfeld into the top four near the end of the session on soft tyres - although a blight on their session involved a brake issue for Heidfeld, resulting in a lack of mileage.
The Ferraris and McLarens finished in the midfield once again and will be hoping that this doesn't reflect the true order throughout the weekend.
