MAX WON FIRST SPRINT OF 2024 F1 SEASON

Max Verstappen won the first sprint of the season, the eighth of his career. Lewis Hamilton finished second, Sergio Perez third.

After only about three hours from the end of the sprint, the qualifications for tomorrow's race followed.

The battle continued at 09:00 CET/MK, until then the cars came out of the parc ferme conditions and with the new rules it was possible to work on their set-up.

Carlos Sainz Jr. annoyed by Alonso made the sprint more interesting, but his team almost suffered.

The Spaniard in Aston Martin received a 10 second penalty and 3 penalty points in his F1 license. The penalty did not affect his result, of course he was the last on table, due to a punctured tire in the 17th of the 19 laps.

After that, in our opinion, followed an inadmissible battle between Ferrari teammates, which from afar it was seen that Sainz Jr. would not win! Plus it took out valuable time to continue Leclerc`s battle with Perez.
Everyone who got up early to watch the sprint witnessed a great fight on the track, a very risky one that unfortunately went wrong.

Fernando Alonso may have been too aggressive in his defense against Sainz Jr., darting inside the contact between the two, just as Sainz Jr. later did, was twice as aggressive, knocking a teammate off the track, likely in the heat of battle, but he should have been much more careful.

On the other hand, it's nice to finally see some aggressiveness on the track, something that was lacking in previous races.

Sergio Perez was patient, perhaps too much, but eventually got a chance to double overtake at the right moment, for P3, but Lewis Hamilton was already too far ahead to attack.

Max in his style, since he "fixed" the tires, everything was easy. In just ten laps, 13 seconds advantage over Hamilton's Mercedes AMG.
Finally, let's mention the driver who started from the first position. Lando Norris got off to a poor start, allowing Lewis Hamilton to catch up with him on the inside of the first corner, so he was an easy target for the Mercedes AMG driver, who moved into the lead.

Moments later Lando Norris had a off the track moment and dropped to seventh place. Everything he did well in the sprint qualifying was lost by one mistake. There was not even a minimal chance to return to the top.
